Insurance Plan (MHIP) Web site.
MHIP is a state-managed health insurance program for Maryland residents who have been unable to obtain health insurance from other sources. MHIP offers its participants access to both CareFirst BlueChoice HMO and CareFirst Blue Preferred PPO networks. These plans are administered by CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield and CareFirst BlueChoice, Inc.
The Maryland General Assembly established the Maryland Health Insurance Plan under the Health Insurance Safety Net Act of 2002. A Board of Directors governs the plan, which operates as an independent unit of the Maryland Insurance Administration.

MHIP Brochure Error Update
There is an error in the current edition of the MHIP brochure. Page 13, MHIP+ Monthly Premium Rates, mistakenly refers to the EPO plan. This is actually the HMO plan. We apologize for any confusion.
